Mental health expertise

South Eastern Private Hospital opened its dedicated mental health consulting clinic and two inpatient wards in August 2016.

Our 60 bed mental health unit comprises 52 single rooms and 4 double rooms across two wards - 'Olinda' and Emerald' that provide treatment for mood disorders, anxiety, depression and older adult conditions. The hospital's Olinda and Emerald wards operate on a consultant team basis with highly qualified mental health nursing and therapy staff.

We have designed our mental health facility to deliver care in the least restrictive manner. This allows patients to feel relaxed and comfortable, with patient safety our first priority.

Mental health services

Our evidence-based treatment, comfortable facilities, and skilled and experienced staff, enhance the quality of care and health outcomes for our patients. Our specialised services include:

• Neurostimulation – Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for the treatment or medication resistant depression and severe depression
• Older persons mental health
• Acute adult psychiatry
• Mood disorders, anxiety and depression
• Inpatient therapy programs
• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) inpatient and day programs
• CBT-based programs
• A broad range of day therapy programs to support ongoing recovery and wellness

Mental health team

Our team of Psychiatrists, Medical, Nursing and Allied Health professionals provide expert care to manage and treat a wide range of mental health disorders. We offer a holistic approach with treatment provided in a safe, supportive environment for inpatients, day patients and outpatients.

Our hospital

Since opening in 1971, South Eastern Private has grown to become a specialist 177 bed medical, rehabilitation and mental health hospital helping the wider Melbourne community.

Conveniently located just off the Eastlink at the junction of Heatherton Road and Princes Highway in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs, we accept patients with private health insurance, uninsured self-funded patients, Workers Compensation and TAC patients. We also welcome eligible veterans and war widows under our Tier 1 provider relationship with the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).
